POITRAS WINS QUEEN OF THE MOUNTAINS COMPETITION IN THE TOUR DE WHITE ROCK
BC Superweek Results:
1st Tour de White Rock – Queen of the Mountains Competition 9th Tour de White Rock – Road Race
6th Gastown Criterium
4th Tour de Delta – Road Race 4th Tour de Delta – Criterium 4th Tour de Delta – Overall 9th Tour de Delta – Hill Climb
It is somewhat ironic that I finished my last road race of the season as the Tour de White Rock Queen of the Mountain. With my training for this season centered on the track and criterium racing, it was a pleasant surprise to end Superweek with this kind of climbing fitness. White Rock was a 10km circuit that the women tackled 8 times. There were 2 significant climbs each lap with Queen of the Mountain points awarded every time up the Columbia climb. QOM points were hotly contested throughout the race by myself, Quebec National Junior Team rider Karol-Ann Canuel (eventual winner of the race) and my Symmetrics team-mate, Christina Briante. It was an exciting battle to the very last sprint - I didn't know I had won the QOM jersey until long after the race was over and the awards were being handed out.

This year's BC Superweek saw record numbers for the women with many top North American racers making the trek out here to compete in Delta, Gastown and White Rock. The Gastown Criterium boasted the "best line-up ever" with riders such as 2-time Olympian Lyne Bessette, past Junior World Sprint Champion, Sarah Uhl from the US and her team-mate, Australian National Champion Helen Kelly, 2004 Pro Cycling Tour Champion Gina Grain and Webcor Professional Cycling Team rider Erinne Willock. Also present were 3 riders from the Canadian National Junior Team preparing for the World Championships, including Langley's Naomi Cooper, and 4 riders from the New Zealand National Development Team.

After a challenging week of racing, the Symmetrics women's top results included a 2nd and 4th place finish in the Tour de Delta Criterium (Marni Hambleton and myself respectively); 4th and 5th overall in the Tour de Delta Omnium (myself and Marni respectively), a victory in the Tour de White Rock Hill Climb and 2nd overall in the Tour de White Rock Omnium (Christina Briante), and the White Rock Queen of the Mountains jersey (myself). The conclusion of Superweek was also the conclusion of the BC Cup Road Series which Marni won with a commanding lead over Symmetrics' team-mate Maria Lee, myself and Christina finished 4th and 5th respectively.
My last race of the season will be the Provincial Time Trial Championships in Squamish, BC. Following Provincials I will take a much needed break before ramping it up again to race the first two Track World Cups of the 2005/2006 season in Moscow and Manchester in November and December respectively. These will be the qualifiers for the 2006 Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne, Australia in March.
Many thanks to everyone for your continual support and encouragement throughout the season:
