2005 GOAL: World Track Championships
I was first introduced to road racing in 1995 and very quickly made
the move to track cycling, which gave me my first taste of
international success in 1997. As a member of the Canadian National
Cycling Team since then, my travels have taken me all over the globe,
from Australia, Africa and Europe to North and South America.
Having capped off the 2004 season with a silver medal at the World
Championships and two more National Championship titles, I am very
excited about the upcoming racing season. While there is only one
more step to ascend to the top of the Worlds podium, my goal for the
2005 racing season is to take that final step in both the Points Race
and Scratch Race. 2005 will also act as preparation for my 2006 goal
of representing Canada at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne,
Australia.
The Track World Cup schedule has undergone considerable changes which
will now allow me to do a full track and road program. Track World
Cups will begin in November 2004 in Moscow and conclude in March 2005
with the World Championships in Los Angeles, California. While I will
continue to race on the track throughout the season, my focus will
shift slightly more towards the road after the World Track
Championships. I plan to be competing in a host of Northwest and East
Coast road race events, including Nationals, BC Superweek, Le Tour de
Grand Montreal and the Wachovia Classic.

| Mandy's
most memorable
and victorious moment in her cycling career was both the best and
the worst day in her life. In a World Cup points race in 1999, Mandy
was involved in a bad crash with only 10 laps left in the 80 lap race.
Not realizing that her helmet was essentially shattered and only being
held together by the velcro pads on the inside, Mandy rejoined the
race to win the final sprint and capture 1st place overall for her
first World Cup victory. Shortly after she was rushed to the hospital,
barely conscious with a severe concussion and no feeling in her arms
and legs. After 2 months of no racing, she returned to represent Canada
at the Pan American Games where she finished 6th. |
