Track World Cup#1,
Cali, Columbia
Points Race |
BACK |
Despite some bad luck during the week leading up to the World Cup,
I was able to pull things together for the points race by winning the
final sprint and vaulting myself into a 4th place finish in the opening
round of the Track World Cup in Cali, Columbia.
ust one week before the World Cup while competing at the Enumclaw Stage
Race with my new team 800.com, I crashed in the criterium and had to
get stitches in my elbow. I completed the road race the next day and
finished the weekend 7th overall. Our team took first place overall
for the team competition and secured first through fourth in the individual
classification and myself in 7th (only 2 seconds out of 6th place).
Heading to Columbia quite stiff and unsure whether I would be able to
compete in the individual pursuit because of the stitches, my bad luck
continued with stripping two stem bolts in as many days, finding out
that my front race wheel was damaged the day before my first race, and
suffering dizzy spells in the pursuit (which I was able to do).
However, my luck changed on Sunday as the points race began and I picked
up a couple points in some early sprints. I knew I needed to win the
final in order to place top five and positioned myself to set up for
this last double points sprint. This has always been a great World Cup
event for me as this was the 3rd year in a row that I have won the final
sprint in Columbia, to vault me up the final standings.
I am now off to Montreal with 800.com to compete in the Road World
Cup up Mount Royal in addition to 3 other races associated with this
event. Then on to the NYC Women's Challenge Criterium and the Philadelphia
World Cup.
