Every year, our club gets together to eat, drink, and be merry. We only do this once a year, because the rest of the time we diet, train, and frown a lot.

Ahem. on Saturday night, the club converged on Dix in downtown Vancouver (recommended: the ribs and the Cezanne strong ale on tap). As part of this annual bacchanal, we give out the club awards for behavior both glorious and infamous.
The winners:

Mechanically Disinclined: for manifold crimes against machinery, Ryan Cousineau took the prize, the second time he has done so.
Dedication to Training (dEVo): Rachel Canning won this award the old-fashioned way, by training all the time, in all weather conditions, and in multiple disciplines.

Dedication to Training (EV): The man they call "Probie," Mike Rothengatter trained his way right onto the Cat 1-2 team this year.

Most Improved (dEVo): This year, Curtis Jung went from that dEVo kid who gamely hung in during low-cat races to that dEVo kid who was a national track champion.
Most improved (EV): Mike Rothengatter scored a double-win, putting his training to use by becoming the risingest star in the EV constellation.

Best (by which we mean Worst) Crash: In a year when the award was disturbingly well-contested (Sneha Shankar's two weeks in hospital, Steve Fenning's hip-breaking BMX crash, Brian Postlethwaite's multiple fork-breaking oopsies, plus other rider's collarbones, broken frames, and lesser calamities too numerous to detail here), Jason Thompson overachieved by crashing spectacularly during a Thursday Nighter sprint, basically breaking his chest or something in the process, and easily enduring the longest recuperative period of any rider this year.

Wheel Suck: Doug Preston dodged the wind better than anyone else, a doubly-impressive feat considering his stature. He also tried to dodge this award by being a no-show at the party, but there's no escaping the Wheel Suck plaque!

rEVolution Leadership: An award to recognize the smiling, friendly face of EV, this went to Jeff Ain for being the smilingest presence at a plethora of EV events, from club rides to races. You can look for him this year as the new dEVo coach, too.

Keeper of the Flame: This award honours the most significant contributor to our club, and winner Jak New's formula was simple: be Directeur Sportif for the Cat 1-2 team, and set up two cyclocross races for the club. Rumor has it he even chose his new vehicle based on its ability to tow the EV club trailer!

In honour of these endless hours of voluntary effort on behalf of EV, we gave him our most coveted award. It's a candle.
