And now a word from Jeremy Storie, our dEVo coach, on an excellent road trip:
Cody Campbell dominated the Cat 3 field and took the overall victory. Cody won the TT (12th in Pro, 1-2) and then the entire dEVo and EV crew sold out for Cody leaving him fresh for the final 3km climb and he delivered taking second in the RR. The same could be said in the crit. All hands were on deck to ensure Cody would take the win. Those riders J Page, Jason Manning, Johnny Cheung, Mike Rothengatter, Owen Sturgess, and Austin MacDougall all won that race. There was also a road race on Friday not part of the stage race and dEVo/EV had 3 of 6 in the break until Cody flatted. Mike R and J Page had a strong 3rd and 4th.
Jonathan Page also had a great ride in the Crit. He went for and won a $100 prime and kept going. Cody and the rest EV/dEVo crew shut it down and J Page stayed away to win the crit and move from 5th to 3rd in the GC.
DJ Manning had the rug pulled out from under him on this weekend. He was third in the RR against full squads from RAD Racing and team Jerky. In the TT he laid it down. He won the Jr 15-16. His time was the fastest Jr 17-18 and in fact he was 3rd in Cat 4 times. Then in the crit he went from the gun and caught the Jr 17-18 leader and the two of them rode away from the field finishing 40 seconds up. DJ got great support from Angus and Curtis in the chase group. In the end DJ finished 2nd overall as the RR and Crit had points values of 25,20,16 12……. While the TT was 10,9,8,7……. DJ Manning was by far the strongest rider in Jrs at Walla Walla.
Kyla G was 9th out of 45 in Cat 4 women TT and then had a mechanical in the crit, got a free lap but got thrown back in at the end of the group. She clawed her way back to the lead group after 10 laps and got 6th in the final with Rachel taking 4th. Great job ladies.
The first year devo crew of Aiden and Patrick had great rides and experiences in the jr races. Camille Nonis captured the jr 17-18 girls race and Megan Campbell was 2nd in the Jr 15-16 crit after getting sick for the first 2 stages. Ollie Newton-Roussey won a prime of about $40 worth of beef jerky and Mark Dormer tried to start the TT in his skater shoes and decided that challenge was not enough so he figured he would not do up the bolts on his TT bars yet still managed a respectable time. Kevin and Cam Thorpe both rode consistently near the front in the crit during the worst conditions of the day and both tried to get away near the end but were brought back.
I think that about covers it in brief and there will be numerous photos sent my way hopefully and we can post them on the website. Thanks to the EV crew for helping out in all aspects and the Giant women's team for chaperoning our girls at the Church. We must be a tough lot. 7 hour drive, no heat or hot water ( we were a little ripe by Sunday ), cramped driving to and from stages and we still made lots of podiums and dominated the cat 3's and jr races.
