A Ride for Everyone

There's a spot for you at Escape Velocity if your riding goals are getting some fresh air and a coffee, a pro contract, or anything in between. We've been on the road in Vancouver since the '80's and we're not stopping any time soon.

RACE TRAINING

Ride Duration: 80-150km

Rolling Speed: 32-36 km/hr

Must-Have: A working bike of any style. Recommended tyre width: =<34mm. Some gusto.

The Escape Velocity Race Team participate in local road race and criterium events. Race team training rides are drop rides, open to all.

SPORT RIDES

Ride Duration: 80-100km

Rolling Speed: 27-30 km/hr

Must-Have: A working bicycle of any age with drop-style handle bars.  Some group riding experience. The tools and ability to repair a flat tire on the roadside.

Sport rides are ideal for riders with goals to improve their fitness. These rides will usually take 3-4 hours, roll at a brisk but attainable speed, and feature a coffee stop in the middle.

SOCIAL RIDES

Ride Duration: 60-80km

Rolling Speed: 24-26km/hr

Must Have: A working bike of any style. A postive attitude. 

Social rides are scenic, and desitnation focused. They'll feature a coffee break in the middle (or two!), lots of photo breaks, and great conversation.

WHAT WE DO

FAST SATURDAY A RIDES

  • This Saturday club ride caters to mid-level riders (e.g., Cat 1-4) with solid group riding experience and who have an interest in training and a commitment to gradual fitness improvement.

  • Start Time: Saturday morning 8:00AM

  • Start Location: Olympic Village Square

  • Routes: Our routes vary during good weather seasons and could include the North Shore, Lion's Bay or beyond, Buntzen Lake/Belcarra, Richmond/Surrey/Ladner, cross-border destinations, Fraser Valley. Most long rides will include rest breaks or coffee stops. During winter and bad weather days, a non-technical route will be chosen, which typically is a Richmond loop.

  • Pace: typically 28-35 km/h rolling pace (3+ hrs).

  • This is nominally a no-drop ride, although riders unable to maintain the pace will be able to drop back to the Social B ride group which follows the same route. 

SOCIAL SATURDAY B RIDES

  • This club ride caters to entry-level riders comfortable riding in a group.

  • Pace: typically 25-27 km/h rolling pace (3+ hrs). 

  • Start Time: Saturday morning 8:00AM

  • Start Location: Olympic Village Square

  • Routes: Our routes vary during good weather seasons and could include the North Shore, Lion's Bay or beyond, Buntzen Lake/Belcarra, Richmond/Surrey/Ladner, cross-border destinations, Fraser Valley.   • This is a no drop ride

WEEKDAY TRAINING RIDES

EV also organize weekday rides for established members, usually on a Tuesday or Thursday night, depending on the season.
